Flocking to cities

Christmas & GiftLast weekend was a highpoint for many cities around the world as people flocked to see Christmas lights and browse the festive markets which have become a tradition for many decades bringing a much needed lift to local businesses. However, so popular have some of the events become, that councils are having to take drastic steps to ensure the safety of attendees. In fact England's oldest Christmas market was scrapped this year following a 'massive success' which left city leaders worrying about public safety. After an influx of 320,000 people visiting Lincoln's Christmas market in 2022 - the same year the event celebrated 40 years - officials decided to cancel the 2023 event fearing the consequences of too many people in a small area. The council has arranged alternative festive activities in the city centre including an ice trail event.

Anyone organising Christmas displays and markets are recommended to visit Harrogate Christmas & Gift next January, where they can find inspiration for Christmas 2024.
